All Onela leather goods are crafted in traditional leather workshops in Argentina and the United States from supple Argentine Pampas leathers, American top grain leathers, and Italian specialty leathers that we import. Our leathers are renowned for their beautiful texture and durability that only hand-selected, carefully tanned leathers can provide. The rigorous production process we employ can take up to seven hours to produce an individual piece from the time the leather is selected and cut to the finishing. The mark of fine leather is its hand, (the way it feels), its color, and its durability. Some manufacturers feel that only one or two of these characteristics suffices. We are not of that school. Others feel that the hand and color are things that only come with the aging and wear of the leather after years of use. We do not subscribe to that school either. While it is true that leather often improves with wear we believe that leather’s color and texture should be as fine when it’s purchased as it is ten years down the road. The hides we cut are luxurious in color and texture from day one and continue to get better for many, many years.

One of the factors that make our leathers outstanding is their origin. Our hand-selected leathers come from specially chosen small cows. While calfskin can be softer it does not have the durability that our leather goods require. And conversely, we do not use steer hide as it lacks the suppleness we insist upon.
